YiA Forum 2017 – Innovation through the eyes of athletes, astronauts and pirates

Over the course of a morning, our legendary line up of speakers will share how their ability to look at the world in a different way across the space, sport and advertising industries has been the catalyst for some leading innovations.

Our speakers include: ex-NASA aerospace engineer and current Silicon Valley CEO, Sinead O’Sullivan; Nike’s Innovation Developer and Tauranga-native, Wade Flanagan flying in from Nike HQ ; and brand innovation guru and managing director of TBWA Group, Catherine Harris.

Sinead O’Sullivan

Sinead is an aerospace engineer and an Entrepreneurial Fellow at the Harvard Business School with previous experience at NASA, the European Space Agency and the UK Space Agency. She is currently the CEO of Fusion Space Technologies, wherein she leads a team of engineers who combine space technology with Artificial Intelligence to challenge the status quo when it comes to humanitarian disaster relief.

As a female CEO of a tech-firm in male-dominated Silicon Valley, Sinead is a trail-blazer. She also co-leads the Space Generation Advisory Council’s international research group ‘Space Technologies for Disaster Management’ and advises the US Centre for Climate and Security on satellite technologies that can mitigate against climate change risks.

Wade Flanagan

Hailing from Tauranga, Wade works in the innovative kitchen at Nike. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Canterbury, then completed a Masters of Engineering in Management before starting his career as a design engineer in Nelson.

Over the years, Wade’s hard work and innovative mind took him to both America and Brazil before he ultimately landed at multi-billion-dollar sports company Nike where he works as an Innovation Developer.

Catherine Harris

Catherine is a brand innovation guru whose career has been defined by her ground-breaking and award-winning work for iconic brands. As Managing Director of TBWA Group in Auckland, she combines the power of creativity with the use of consumer insight, data, CX, UX, shopper marketing, digital and PR.

Over the past fifteen years, Catherine has lead local, regional and global accounts in New Zealand, the UK and Australia. Her work on iconic brands has led to hundreds of awards for brands including Nissan, Sony and Cadbury. Her ‘Penny the Pirate’ Campaign for OPSM was the WARC most effective campaign in the world in 2016 and she was awarded an inaugural Cannes Creative Innovation Lion.
